VBS Day 4:
God's Son Rescues Us.
VBS Day 2:
God Provides All We Need
VBS Day 1:
God Promises to Save Us From Sin
We’re on an Amazing Desert Journey this summer in VBS!
Kids ages 3 through grade 6 will attend VBS from July 23 to 27 from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. Through the dedication of our members and friends who volunteer at VBS, we share the Gospel of Jesus Christ to over 60 children each year. If you aren’t part of VBS yet, why not?
If you can help, we have many levels of involvement to suit your schedule and interests. One position that we are currently looking to fill is someone to teach the Kindergarten class. Sign up by filling out a volunteer sheet located on the table in the narthex. Junior youth, senior youth, and college students, we can use your help as well. Call Darci Russell at 352-0373 or email her at

Today’s Precious Gold Memory Verse: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6
Today, the children were challenged to meet Jesus in a fresh way as they learn about the bold claims Jesus made about Himself, including that He is God, He is the only way to heaven, and he can forgive sins.
Bold Claims of Jesus:
Claim 1: Only Jesus is God! No one else can rightly claim to be God.
Claim 2: Only Jesus can completely forgive sins!
Claim 3: Only Jesus is perfect! No one else was or is perfect.
Claim 4: Only Jesus is the Creator! No one else can create from nothing.
Claim 5: Only Jesus is the way to heaven! All paths don’t lead to heaven.
VBS Mission Project:
Daily offerings collected during VBS will be given to the new St. John Lutheran Preschool program which will open on Tuesday, September 6th. Money collected will go to supplying the many needs of the preschool program.
If you would like more information on the new preschool program, please contact the church office at (319) 352-2314.
Today’s Precious Gold Memory Verse: “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:21
THE REAL TREASURE
The miners who came to California for gold ended up staying a long while. Most of them ended up in California for many months or years, having to spend Christmas and other holidays there. They were staying because they hoped to find treasure. But they may not have realized that the real treasure had already come to the world. His name is Jesus, and He should be treated like a King, not only at Christmas, but every day of our lives. There’s never been a birth like His, and there never will be again.

Today’s Precious Gold Memory Verse: Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” They immediately left their nets and followed Him. Matthew 4:19-20
PRETEND OR REAL?
When y’all think of Jesus, remember He is a REAL person – no legend or make-believe story. In fact, He’s the only TRUE superhero with real super powers who ever lived. The Bible is a book of TRUE happenings, and it tells us about some of the super-human miracles Jesus did! Only God Himself could say and do the things He did!

Today’s Precious Gold Memory Verse: He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Matthew 16:15-16
SAD TO GLAD
Miners in the Old West liked to record their thoughts in journals. A lot of them held sad, sad news. The long trip on the trail was tough. Many sad journal entries were written describing terrible hunger, choking dust, wagons swept downstream, loss of supplies, lost children, and sickness and death along the way. But if they made it to gold country and found gold, you’d better believe that much of their sad news changed to glad news.
Any sad news to glad news accounts are nothing though, compared to the one about the end of Jesus’ life. We’ve talked about His unique birth and
life. Tonight, we talked about His unique death and resurrection. It’s the most amazing sad news to glad news story ever!

Today’s Precious Gold Memory Verse: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” 2 Corinthians:5:17
BEFORE AND AFTER
The best before and after examples have to do with people God has changed. Sure, a town can change, a house can be remodeled, or a person can put on new clothes. But only God can change a person from the inside and make him into a wonderful, new creation. The beginning of that change is when we become a part of God’s family. From that point on, God changes us to be more like His Son Jesus. The transformations are incredible!
VBS concluded with a Chuckwagon Supper & Cowboy Carnival Games.
